Quebec’s Best Golf Courses

Golf has been played in Quebec since before the founding of North America’s oldest running golf club, Royal Montreal in 1873. Today, much of the essential golf landscape is concentrated around the Montreal and Ottawa areas — largely dominated by private clubs. Most of these are well established, historic clubs, with relatively few newcomers in the marketplace.
On the public side of things, such great layouts like Grand Mere, Chateau Montebello, and Lachute No. 1 (Thompson) are essential plays for golf enthusiasts in or travelling to Quebec. While Le Diable and Le Geant are two recommendable resort courses in the beautiful village of Mont Tremblant.
The most recent addition to La Belle Province is the South course at La Tempete, just outside Quebec City, which opened in 2025 from architects Darrel and Warren Huxham (Huxham Golf Design). Though intended to be a private members only club, La Tempete does offer some outside accommodation on its original layout — the North course.
Must Play
Stanley Thompson's infamous Seigniory Club, turned Chateau Montebello in the 1970's, rests in a dense forest an hour from Ottawa. While rugged on the outside, the golf is played across dramatic rocky terrain. Showcasing an adventurous spirit only found among the best layouts in the country.
An early Albert Murray design later refined by both Walter Travis and C.H. Alison in rural Quebec. The routing through the dense boreal landscape plays with confident restraint across natural landforms. A genuine hidden gem, among the most rewarding designs anywhere in Canada.
An original Stanley Thompson design in Lachute, Quebec, later altered by Howard Watson. Architecturally interesting on a relatively flat piece of property, importantly offered at an affordable rate. The third best public offering in the province.
The reinvention of the Blue course at Laval stands as a rare departure from the conventions of modern designs in Canada. Ian Andrew and 2003 Masters Champion Mike Weir utilized ground focused concepts inspired by the likes of Royal Melbourne and Riviera to create a brilliant, second-shot golf course.
A Willie Park Jr. design south of Montreal, built with characteristic sensitivity atop the forested slopes of nearby Mont Saint-Bruno. Graceful and unhurried in character reflecting both the architects brilliant understanding of ground contour and strategic variety, and the club's respectful nature of its historic character.
